Brief description of .925 Sterling Silver.
Why is Sterling Silver referred to as .925? Sterling Silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% (by weight) Silver and 7.5% (by weight) other metals - usually copper. Fine silver - 99.9% pure - is too soft to produce functional jewelry, therefore the silver is alloyed with copper to give it strength, while at the same time preserving the beauty of the metal.
Other metals are used instead or in addition to the copper - metals that will improve various properties of the alloy - reducing porosity, eliminating scale and increasing it's resistance to tarnishing.
At DiscountStoreRoom.com, all of our Sterling Silver products are formed from the highest quality .925 Sterling Silver. Check back here for the next post - How to Care for your Sterling Silver Jewelry.
